MAF Introduces the First float Plane in Uganda
Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), the main operator and manager of the Kajjansi airfield has introduced the first float plane in Uganda. Launched on the 14th October 2025, this aircraft is designed to take off and land both on the mainland and water.
It is mainly introduced to ease and improve transport on the Lake Victoria connecting to its various pristine islands. The Cessna 208 float plane will be used for emergency healthcare provision for people leaving in the hard to reach island communities. Another advantage is the ability to rescue human lives in case there is a boat accident.
Officials of MAF highlighted that this plane will smoothen transportation on the waters of Lake Victoria. It can cover a 3 or 5 hours journey by boat in just 20 or 3o minutes. This is a lifesaving initiative as many people have been facing challenges to use boats especially when there is heavy storms and rapids.
It has 10 seats on board and MAF is hoping to begin operations with six initial island docking points including Buvuma. The target is to expand services to all islands on the renowned Lake Victoria.
