Effects of Iran – Israel/USA War on Entebbe Airport, Uganda
The current ongoing war is not what everyone would call for. Today, while at the Entebbe International Airport, I witnessed something that truly left me unsettled for a while. Several flights scheduled for the Middle East had been cancelled by midday.
There were no departures to and from Dubai, Sharjah, or Doha routes that are usually busy and full of life. Seeing this reality hit close to home made the situation feel heavier than just news headlines.
This conflict between Iran, Israel & United States is not distant it is already disrupting lives, world travel, and livelihoods.
One of the most worrying developments is the tension around the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage through which a significant 10 percent portion of the world’s oil flows. The closure will deeply affect the oil prices globally.
Any disruption there means rising fuel prices, increased transport costs like expensive flight tickets, and a heavier burden on ordinary people not just globally, but right here in Uganda. As you know our economy mostly depends on the road transport system.
It is painful to know that a war happening thousands of kilometers away can so quickly affect our daily lives and earnings. From grounded flights to the looming rise in fuel and commodity prices, the impact is real and deeply felt heavily.
In moments like this, the world is reminded how connected we all are. And as we watch these events unfold, one can only hope for peace and stability because the cost of conflict is never limited to borders; it reaches all of us wherever you are.
The cancellation of flights affects business for Airport taxi drivers, flight ticket agencies, labor export companies, imports and exports, airline companies, car rental operators, hotel owners and a lot more.
