Scheduled to take place on 22nd August 2026, the Rwenzori Marathon is a must for those who love sports. Organized by Amos Wekesa and other stakeholders, this event is expected to invite in a plethora of international athletes from various parts of the world.
This world athletics road race will cover various parts in the Rwenzori sub region. The main theme is to unearth and expose participants to multiple allures that the region has to offer including the prominent Mountain Rwenzori with its unmatched glaciers.
There are various routes for everyone including the Equator marathon route. This 42km route is the longest and internationally verified by the World Athletics Federation. It starts at the Kikorongo equator through the breathtaking Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kasese town.
The other is the Kilembe half Marathon route. It is 21km and takes you through the foothills of the Rwenzori mountain range. Next is the 10km run around Kasese town and the 5km vibes run. These two short routes are good for beginners, but expect no cash prize for anyone who emerges winner for these two routes.
The main sponsor for this event is Tusker lite. Other sponsors include Britam, Standard chartered, Uganda Athletics, Explore Uganda, Ministry of Tourism, KIA and UCC.
