Located in Farwaniya, this facility is the international airport of Kuwait. It serves as the hub of Kuwait and Jazeera Airways.

It is about 15.5 kilometers south of Kuwait city and covers a total area of 37.7 square kilometers.

First launched in 1927 – 1928, this airport was originally envisioned as a stop for British planes on their way to India.

It was designed by Kenzo Tange and put up in 1979 by A1 Hani construction that formed a joint venture with Ballast Nedam of the Netherlands.

How to Get from There

Once you get to Kuwait airport, you can easily get from there to the city either by an airport taxi or arrange with a friend or relative to pick you if you have one.

Between 1999-2001, the airport underwent a large renovation, the former parking lots were cleared and a new terminal expansion was built.

This new structures included check-in areas, airport mall, multi-story parking and a new entrance to the airport.

Kuwait International Airport handled more than nine million passengers per year until a new general aviation terminal was completed in 2008.

By the end of 2008, the airport was modified and a small building known as Sheikh Saad General Aviation Terminal was constructed.

The main reason for this new structure was to handle scheduled services of Wataniya Airways and general aviation traffic.

Later in 2011, the Department of Civil Aviation announced the proposal to expand Kuwait International Airport such that it can handle more aircraft and passengers annually.

On October 3, 2011, the directorate general of civil aviation approved the construction process and this increased the annual passenger handling to 14 million passengers.

This was the first phase and it encompassed an option of expanding the capacity to 25 million passengers.
