Busiest Roads From Kampala City Center
Like any other city with a limited transport network, Kampala usually experiences a problem of high traffic congestion along its routes. Since there is no rail network or tube, all passengers get from the city to other areas by road transport.
The capital is large enough and surrounded by multiple town centers in different districts. Its transportation system helps travelers including tourists to traverse its various corners and suburbs.
During the day it welcomes thousands of people who come in to carry out varied activities. The vehicles including private cars, motorcycles, buses, and public taxis convey in and out these people daily.
Therefore it is no surprise that the routes are ever congested especially in the morning and evening hours. If you need to drive in, out, or around Kampala, make sure to know the best paths. Most roads are traffic-free in the afternoon and at lunchtime.
Listed below are the city’s busiest roads. The congestion is common before 11:00 PM and after 4:00 PM (day time)
Entebbe Road
This connects Kampala to Entebbe town, home to the only international airport in Uganda.
It is used by people who stay in different towns along this path like NaJJanankumbi, Namasuba, Zzana, Lubowa, Kajjansi, Kawuku, Nakawuka, Nalumunye, Lweza, Ndejje, Bunamwaya, Seguku and a lot more.

Jinja Road
This winds through various towns, Mabira forest up to Jinja town in the eastern part of Uganda.
It is great for those who need to access places like Nakawa, Naguru, Banda, Ntinda, Kyambogo University, Kireka, Seeta, Mukono, Bweyogerere, Namboole stadium, Namataba, Mbarara, Lugazi, Najjembe, Buikwe district to name but a few.
Masaka Road
Starting from the city center up to Busega roundabout where you continue from, Masaka highway allows riders to access various villages and towns in the western part of Uganda including, the most developed place in this region.
It is also the main route used by those who desire to get from Uganda to Tanzania by road transport means.
Bombo Road
Since it’s used by people who travel to areas like Kawempe, Bwaise, Kawanda, Bombo, Kasana, Luwero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola, Masindi, Kigumba, Gulu, and more, it is not surprising that this road is included amongst Kampala’s high traffic routes.
The drive starts from the CBD to Wandegeya and continues up to the Bwaise route meeting point where you find this main path.
Kampala – Ntinda – Kiwatule
This is for those heading to Kamwokya, Bukoto, Ntinda, Najjera, Kiwatule, and other areas like Kisasi, Uganda martyrs shrines in Namugongo.
You can use this path from Ntinda and connect to the Jinja highway in Nakawa or use the northern bypass and join it in Bweyogerere.
Gayaza Road
For those travelling to Kalwere, Mpererwe, Gayaza, Kasangati, Manyangwa, Zirobwe, and Kalagi, this is for you.
If not the Jinja route, travelers use this roadway to reach places like Bugerere, Mukono, Lugazi, Kangulumira, and Idinda town itself.
Hoima Road
Other than the Masaka route, trippers use this path to reach Hoima and other areas in the western and northwestern regions of the country.
From the oil city, passengers connect to places like Kagadi, Kyenjojo, Fort portal, Masindi, Murchison Falls National Park, Gulu, Kitgum, Arua to mention but a few.
